The United States legal definition is another story – different states have different definitions for Antique, Classic and Vintage cars. That is because some require stricter emissions rules and they want to eliminate ways for drivers to avoid paying the right amount for insurance. Generally speaking a car needs to be at least 20 years old to be thought of as a classic.
