A classic car can have a number of different meanings to different people so let’s go directly to “the source” for an accurate definition. The Classic Car Club of America defines a Classic Car as a “Fine” or “Distinctive” automobile, American or foreign built, between 1925 and 1948.

In many cases a classic car was high priced when built and was made in limited quantities. Other factors like custom coachwork, engine displacement and luxury items like power brakes, etc. also denote what car is a true “Classic”.

The United States legal definition is another story – different states have different definitions for Antique, Classic and Vintage cars. That is because some require stricter emissions rules and they want to eliminate ways for drivers to avoid paying the right amount for insurance. Generally speaking a car needs to be at least 20 years old to be thought of as a classic.

All definitions aside, you may say “I know a classic when I see one and the state, US and CCCA can’t tell me otherwise”. Here at Old Car Online we believe in that theory too – you can browse our classic cars anytime and when you see your “Classic” please don’t hesitate to grab it through our user friendly website.
