Description:
The 5.0-liter Mustang always represented fun on a budget, and the bang-for-the-buck meter is pegged with this red-hot 1995 Ford Mustang GT convertible. Better yet, aside from regular maintenance, an upgraded exhaust, and a minor aesthetic upgrade or two, it\'s completely stock and hasn\'t been raced or abused like so many of its siblings, so it still represents affordable performance with a ton of potential. Bright red paint, a top that goes down, and old-school American V8 muscle -- what more could you ask for at this price point?

The 2nd generation Mustang was a pretty big deal when it hit the streets in 1994, and the look has become almost as familiar as the generations before it. Wearing GT-only spec Rio Red paint, this lifelong Texan ragtop has led a pretty easy life and still shines up nicely on a warm Saturday afternoon. It\'s not a perfect car, of course, but if you want a fast Mustang that hasn\'t been beaten up, wrapped around a tree, and rebuilt by a kid in his driveway, this is an excellent choice. And in fact, a little PDR and a couple hours spent buffing and waxing this beauty in the driveway would easily restore some former showroom glory. Stock bumpers, a factory wing out back, and the distinctive 3-element taillights that were intended to recall the original 1965 models, remain in place, more evidence of this car\'s excellent pedigree, because those are often the first things that are replaced when the modifications start. Even the headlights remain clear and all the factory badges are still stuck to the sides of the car, making this an excellent survivor in every sense of the word.

The reinforced body structure of the SN95 Mustangs paid big dividends for the interior, which feels rock solid, even with a disappearing roof. Supportive buckets look classy with their recently reupholstered two-tone fabrics and the perforated vinyl seating surfaces keep things cool in the summertime with the top down. There\'s only modest wear on door panels with the rest of the interior looking quite well-kept, right down to the original carpets and floor mats that show only minor wear. This GT came loaded with just about every available option, including A/C, power windows/locks/mirrors/seat/top, cruise control, a tilt wheel, and a 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission. The original stereo is gone, replaced by a newer Kenwood AM/FM/CD stereo, but that and the reupholstered seats are the only major modifications to the car. The tan power convertible top opens and closes with the touch of a button and stacks nearly flush with the body for a clean profile, although if you\'re anything like me you\'ll keep it down most of the time. And while Mustangs have never been famous for their cargo capacity, the factory-finished trunk is certainly big enough for a few overnight bags and still carries the original space-saver spare and cargo net.

What else can we say about the venerable 5.0 under the hood that hasn\'t already been said a hundred times? It\'s torquey, likes to rev, and is virtually indestructible, and happily runs on regular unleaded without complaint. 1995 was the final year of the original pushrod 302 V8, as it was retired after 30 years of use for the 4.6L modular V8 the following year, so this particular Mustang carries quite a bit of history under its hood. The familiar intake manifold helps account for that stout torque curve and as I said earlier, finding an unmodified 5.0 Mustang is no easy feat, with the stiffening 4-point cross brace under the hood and the updated exhaust underneath being the lone modifications to report. Even the original distributor cover is still in place and it exhales through a set of Flowmasters that sound great, but don\'t worry, they work in tandem with the original catalytic convertors and should therefore meet all emissions standards. The 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission is always ready with a quick downshift, so all you need to do is point it and drop the ha
