FOR SALE: 1983 DMC-12 SURVIVOR ONLY 1,543 MILES. "MUSEUM QUALITY"-LIKE NEW 1983 DELOREAN! $110,000 USD NEG
West Hills, CA

Description:
1983 DELOREAN-ONLY 1,543 MILES-"MUSEUM
QUALITY"-ESSENTIALLY A NEW 1983 DMC-12!

I’m sure you’re already familiar with the
iconic DeLorean from the movie Back To The
Future. These stainless-steel gullwing sports
cars were manufactured in Northern Ireland
from 1980-1982, and were sold as 1981-1983
models. They are now one of the most highly
sought-after collector automobiles worldwide.

This always garaged exceptional 1,543 mile
time capsule 1983 DeLorean is in “Collector
and Museum Quality” condition, and has been
in my private collection stored in a climate-
controlled garage for the past 5 years. An
extremely low mile 1983 DeLorean, this
example is as good as it gets! It has the
preferred 5-speed manual transmission and
black interior.

The earlier 1981 and 1982 models were plagued
with quality control and electrical issues.
They were all sorted out by the production of
the 1983 models. This DeLorean has received
all necessary maintenance. After being stored
for 28 years, only minimal servicing was
required to bring this example back to AS-NEW
mechanical condition. That included
installation of a new battery, cleaning of
the fuel tank, new DeLorean fuel pump and
fuel filter assembly, six new fuel injectors,
replacement of the original rubber fuel lines
with black steel-braided lines (the perfect
originals are included), and the rebuilding
by DMC of the Bosch fuel distributor. Also,
new spark plugs, distributor, trunk support
struts and the lambda sensor were installed.
The cooling system was flushed and an oil
change performed using a DMC filter. The
brake system was flushed, new front & rear
brake hoses installed, and the brake calipers
rebuilt. There were no major issues requiring
the above work, other than making sure that
this DeLorean was 100% safe to drive and
would perform as new! With the exception of
the battery, all replacement components were
sourced directly from DMC, and all removed
original components are included with the
vehicle.

This 1983 DeLorean DMC-12 was sold new on
July 11, 1984, to an older couple living in
Sandy, Utah. It was for the wife to drive on
weekends, was always garaged, babied,
exceptionally well maintained, and driven
very sparingly through December 1991. They
retained ownership of the car for 35 years
until January, 2020, when I acquired it.

This example of the best 1983 production year
has the preferred black interior and 5-speed
manual transmission, and is powered by its
original 2.85-liter fuel-injected V6 engine.
Replacement parts are readily available and
the stainless-steel body will never rust.

The exterior of this DeLorean is nothing
short of stunning with its beautiful brushed
stainless-steel body, gullwing doors, factory
turbine-style aluminum wheels, and OEM
correct Goodyear NCT-HR60 tires.

The original black leather interior,
including the seats, dash, instruments, light
gray carpeting, etc., all look brand new. The
interior retains all of its original factory
parts, including the steering wheel, the
original AM/FM cassette deck, floor mats, air
conditioning, speedometer, tachometer with a
6,500-rpm redline, as well as gauges for oil
pressure, coolant temperature, voltage, etc.
The odometer now shows just 1,543 miles, and
that is the TRUE ACTUAL MILES this DeLorean
has been driven since new. The original owner
put on the first 1,528 miles, and I have put
on only 15 additional miles during the past
five years.

The all original trunk is pristine. It
contains as-new carpeting, the original
factory tool kit, stored in the front
compartment, a perfect original spare wheel
and tire, jack, an extra set of new (still
plastic-wrapped) factory floor mats, the
original DMC fitted car cover and an as-new
unused black vinyl DMC front bug/stone guard.

This final-year 1983 DMC-12 is offered with
all documentation from new, that includes the
window sticker, original purchase documents
including the finance statement, original
various through the years registration
paperwork, previous license plates,
additional miscellaneous documents dating
back to 1984 when sold new, manufacturer’s
literature, etc., etc. Also included are
DeLorean service books, DeLorean magazines,
and a clean California title in my name.

The bottom line is that this is a perfectly
preserved, well documented, 1983 DeLorean
DMC-12 with only 1,543 miles. The opportunity
to acquire a vehicle of this caliber is rare
indeed, and will surely surpass any buyer’s
expectations. This DeLorean is worthy of
being in any enthusiast’s collection or
automobile museum!

ADDITIONAL READING:
John Z. DeLorean’s attempt at creating a
full-blown car company was an ambitious and
gutsy, but between money problems and the
high-profile drug bust where John Z. was
entrapped by the Feds (He was acquitted on
grounds of entrapment), the whole enterprise
died a sad end. The infamous stainless steel
sports car got a second wind in 1985 with
Back to the Future and became a pop culture
icon. Aside from pop culture, the DeLorean
received the accolades of car reviewers who
found the car to be quite good. Road & Track
even said “it may well be that the DeLorean
will become a cult car, purchased for status
reasons by persons wishing to be seen as
individualists.” DeLoreans have been owned by
many celebrities through the years. It is
said that Johnny Carson, Patrick Swayze,
Sammy Davis Jr., were among them.

For years, the DeLorean enjoyed reasonable
pricing, but over the past five years it saw
real growth in the market, and the past few
months saw another sizable surge as a couple
of exceptional cars traded in the deep
$100,000+ range. While good (condition #3) to
fair (condition #4) cars did not enjoy such a
lift, it’s clear that there is a strong
appetite for DeLoreans and buyers are willing
to pay up for exceptional ones such as this
one. The future looks bright.
