A truly splendid example that will keep all enthusiasts guessing about its authenticity! History About The Auburn 852 Boattail Speedster: Certainly one of the iconic cars of the 1930\'s, the Auburn Boattail Speedster, designed by Gordon Buehrig and Count Alexis de Sakhnoffsky, continues to be one of the most head turning vehicles to roam our roadways. Originally an all steel body fitted with a supercharged Lycoming straight 8 under the hood, they can claim price tags well into the $800,000 range for pristine original examples. One of the first to produce a replica of the body in fiberglass form in the early 1970\'s would be Elegant Motors who are based in Indianapolis, Indiana. Elegant Motors would offer several configurations of the original Auburn Speedster, including a 4-seater Phaeton and long wheelbase version for taller drivers, which was founded by Del Amy and former stock car racer Dick Passwater. They would provide buyers a full complement of custom options, including Chevrolet Corvette or Ford powertrains. With sensational reviews from their turnkey Speedsters for having remarkable authenticity by major publications like Motor Trend, Playboy, and Car Classics, it lead to more neo-classic models by Elegant Motors to include a Cord 820 Phaeton, Shelby Cobra 427, Lamborghini Countach, and legendary Cheetah. The Auburn 852 Speedster offered here is an extraordinarily authentic example not easily duplicated for the money! About Our Auburn 852 Boattail Speedster For Sale: We are pleased to represent a special built 1981 Auburn 852 Boattail Speedster by Elegant Motors that was commissioned by the original owner with the challenge to replicate an original as close as possible. The attention to detail in this beauty will without a doubt keep the onlookers guessing! Finished in beautiful Signal Red with Cream accents, along with, closely matched Ivory leather interior upholstery, this custom classic makes a significant first impression in any setting! Fitted to a modified GM chassis, under the hood lies a Pontiac 400ci V8 with 4-barrel Quadrajet carburetion and Turbo-Hydramatic 350 3-speed automatic transmission with limited slip rear differential. Options include air conditioning, power front disc brakes, power steering, tilt column, cruise control, electric wipers, turn signals, heat/defrost, fog lamps, seatbelts, and more! Bringing this particular example to a higher level of accuracy are some often overlooked characteristics. These include the engine exhaust ducts exiting only on the driver\'s better simulating the original straight 8 engine design, chrome teardrop headlamps, exterior hood release latches, period correct 15 wire spoke wheels with Auburn 8 caps, golf bag door, glass wind wings, beveled glass rearview mirror, functional dual cowl ventilation, and exceptional aluminum Auburn dash, chrome bezel gauges, Auburn-Crosley AM radio, with the Al Jenkins plaque.
