The goal was to pull younger customers away from Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Jaguar models in the mid- to late 1970s. These Euro luxury machines had been siphoning away sales at a faster rate every year, blowing holes in the American car mantra, Bigger is Better. Cadillac sought to change this with its Seville, its smallest car in decades. A clever move, this car is a heavily reworked X-body vehicle, kin to the everyday Chevrolet Nova. Most customers never knew the two vehicles had anything relevant in common. This example was made during the second week of March 1977 in Detroit, Michigan (VIN code Q). Five months later, this example was shipped to American Sunroof Corporation, where an aftermarket sunroof was installed. The original ASC sticker remains on the driver\'s door jamb, complete with a date of August 16, 1977 and a destination dealer of Pat Patterson Cadillac in Oakland, California. Recently re-finished in Georgian Silver (code 13), this model looks especially sharp, a result of its sharp-edged styling and the body hue. The sunroof install looks better than some modern installations. There\'s a new, full vinyl roof that matches the body color. The car\'s paint and trim are in overall excellent order, the bodywork is straight and solid and the engine bay is tidy. The car\'s chrome bumpers fit tightly to the body and there are opera lights adorning both C-pillars. This Seville is currently rolling on Vogue white stripe tires, size 245/40R20 at all four corners. Each tire is mounted on oversized wire wheels with center spinners. The tires are new while the wheels are in very good shape. This car rides a 114.3-inch wheelbase. It is further equipped with adjustable rear air shocks. Under the counterbalanced hood is a 350 CID V-8 engine sourced by Oldsmobile and which originally came with Bendix analog port fuel injection. That has since been changed back to a carbureted fuel setup. Backing the motor is a Turbo Hydramatic 400 three-speed transmission. Driver convenience features are plentiful – air-conditioning, power steering, power disc brakes, power windows, power locks, power sideview mirrors, cruise control, tilt steering column and power antenna. Additional goodies include 50/50 split front seat (code W), intermittent wipers (code K) and six-way power passenger seat (code L). The car also has air shocks. Inside, the Antique Light Gray leather interior (code 152) is in overall great shape. The front bench seat is split 50/50 (code W) and there is a six-way power passenger seat (code L). There are fold-down center armrests front and rear. The matching carpeting and headliner look great, as does the two-spoke steering wheel. The inner door panels and dash have been trimmed in faux wood for some added warmth. In the rear are reading lights for the passengers, along with straps to hang coats, scarves and other winter items over during transit (and it\'s an echo of pre-WWII Cadillacs). There\'s a column-mounted shift lever and a Delco AM/FM stereo with an eight-track cassette deck to round out the interior. Starting with the 1977 model year, production Sevilles used the larger five-lug bolt circle common to full-size Chevrolet passenger cars (1971–76), Cadillacs, Buicks, Oldsmobiles, Pontiacs, and half-ton Chevrolet/GMC light trucks and vans. It also received rear disc brakes, a design which would surface a year later as an option on the F-body Pontiac Trans Am. 1975–76 models included a vinyl roof, to less expensively cover the roof\'s two-part construction, the rear section around the C-pillar was pressed especially for Cadillac and X-body pressing was used for the forward section. Due to customer demand, a painted steel roof was offered in 1977, requiring a new full roof stamping.
