Description:1971 Volkswagen type 2 Microbus custom camper I bought this vehicle in 1996 from VW mechanic. I discarded the rear bumper and replaced it with a 4 x 4, which prior experience had shown to be much more protective and useful than the original bumper. The 1996 paint job has held up remarkably, but has minor body rust spots in places. No rust on undercarriage; California car. Now has only 11,000 miles on 1776 cc rebuilt engine, about 10% more powerful than original engine. Installed by The Buggy House (Hayward) 2010. They also added an extra 72-plate oil cooler, for long-distance hot-weather driving. Regular maintenance performed by VW mechanics. 4 new tires 2300 miles ago. Spare is in unused condition. Alas: front end got dented last fall in a low-speed accident. My poor baby! Broke my heart! But luckily, no damage to lights, heating, or interior shroud. Exterior dents only. Mileage is about 16+ mpg city, 20 highway, loaded. Everything works except: 1. I\'m not sure about the window washing system (I never used it, but I can\'t remember why) 2. After van sat for a couple of months, the gas tank gauge needle failed to move. Hoping it jiggles loose soon... 3. Signal light lever arms don\'t always return to neutral after turns; you have to remember to click them off, but this soon becomes second nature. As I recall from an earlier van, this requires a slight adjustment at the steering column. This vehicle has the expected quirks and fixes (cosmetic) expected in an old vehicle, but nothing crucial to operation or driving. Passenger seat has split under the bottom cover; driver seat is ripped on upper corner, under cover. Craigslist only permits 24 photos, but I can send more if you want. COMFORT & PRACTICALITY Fabulous vehicle for the right buyer. This is the ideal vehicle for someone who wants to take the road less traveled; it\'s great for back roads. Owner should be handy, resourceful, and know how to change your own tires and maintain.
