Description:1968 Chevrolet Chevelle SS396 Every now and then, an automaker releases a car that\'s nearly perfect in stock form. The list is short but the 1968 Chevelle SS396 is definitely one of those cars. Gaining a following that few Chevrolet\'s have seen outside of the tri-five world, nice examples never stick around our showroom for long. This amazing 1968 Chevelle SS complete with a white vinyl top, 38,607 actual miles, a correct and consignor stated big block 396ci mill, everything rebuilt or restored to keep that factory look, and the perfection of design that goes along with it. I\'m speechless, although I need to get over that as I need to write this description! Exterior If we compare the trim tag to the actual car, we see that it is a respray of Grecian Green, (H6), which is just beautifully and meticulously applied to the panels which are very straight and gaps are minded well. A sporty wrap around black stripe dives downward on the front of the front quarter then runs horizontally along the rocker. This then continues along both sides, and a smaller, thinner shiny chromed trimming frames the top part. Just above is another black stripe with thinner stripes on the top and bottom. Shiny trimmings surround the wheel wells and glass which is near perfection. An aggressively angled front grille has dual headlights that flank a mostly black egg crate grille with a pristine SS badge in the middle. Noted the smaller upper stripe along with its top and bottom thin stripes is also making an appearance across the header panel. A shiny bumper is below and houses the turn signal lighting. On top is a white vinyl covering in very nice condition, and does not have any rust bubbles typically seen on the lower B pillar area on vinyl topped Chevrolets. This top slopes gracefully down and frames the rear glass, which eventually leads to the Grecian green paint taking over for the trunk deck. This continues the graceful sloping, and frames the tail lighting which are horizontal and wrap around the rear quarters. Another black stripe is in the center of the lighting and has thin chrome trimming on top and bottom as well as another SS badge. Nice near perfect shiny 15-inch rally wheels are wrapped in 215/65R15 rubber from the 16th week of 1994. Interior A gander at the trim tag again shows that there is Parchment imitation leather for the interior and the designers were still hitting on all cylinders for this snappy interior. Ribbed parchment and some shiny edging and cranks with white knobs are seen along with the shiny door actuator lever in the front of the armrest. Parchment imitation leather clad front buckets have buttoned and tuck and rolled inserts and smooth bolsters with wide parchment piping delineating the edges. A rear bench with the same pattern looks as though no one ever even sat there. Black carpeting floods the floors, and a black classed console races through the buckets to the dash. This console has some aluminum accenting panels as well as a Muncie shifter with a white ball topper. The dash is completely original and has not been restored but presents in nice condition with square gauges, and some shiny turning knobs flanking the gauges on either side. An original black steering wheel is fronting the dash, which has a crack free black padded dash top. The headliner is white and in fab condition. Drivetrain Automotive jewelry would best describe the engine bay with a bright orange colored block and intake manifold, and some chrome valve covers and air cleaner. This is a consignor stated numbers matching 396ci V8, (however this cannot be proven as the stamping date and suffix along with the partial VIN stamping was removed during the rebuild), which theoretically pumps out a factory designated 325 horses. A 4 barrel Rochester carburetor, not the original, feeds fossils to the mill to burn, and turns a non-original 4-speed manual Saginaw transmission. The rear axle codes out as a 12
