Description:
1966 Ford Mustang Convertible  The Mustang name, of course, was born with this car, allegedly because aviation enthusiast and Ford Executive Stylist John Najjar Ferzely felt the car resembled a P-51 Mustang airplane.  An alternate name-origin story suggests that designer Philip Clark came up with it in reference to the wild horses he saw on a cross-country trip.  The horse angle, as opposed to the plane angle, is the one that stuck in the end. For consignment, the results of a 5 year journey after picking up the car from the previous owner.  Our consignor has not only finished the job but done a bang up job with plenty of attention to detail, utilizing various expert shops for different steps of the restoration, and now you have a turn key ready to enjoy, ready to show 1966 Ford Mustang.  Oh and I need to mention a consignor stated 302ci V8 is now under the hood. Exterior While performing the exterior restoration, and in lieu of cutting out rust sections and welding in new, their theory is to replace any panels completely.  This was done to the tune of front quarters, both wheel houses, drop downs, full rails,  and new bumpers and hardware all nice and shiny.  Doors, hood, and trunk are new car-like with laser straight panels and well minded gaps that are tighter than when it rolled off the factory floor.  Primed and block sanded twice then finished with a near perfect coat of the Rangoon Red.  All is also well with the trimmings as in badges, bumpers, grille, window surrounds, rockers, and light bezels.  The black power canvas convertible top was replaced a few years ago and shows nicely, very clean and no rips or tears.  Bringing up the rear are the triple V tail lights, an inset shiny bumper, and dual exhausts peeking through the rear roll pan.  Sporty 14-inch styled steel wheels are wrapped by raised white letter rubber in 205/70R14 size from the 30th week of 2012.   Interior The interior presents with low back buckets in black vinyl with a front bench seat bottom and bucket backs, hiding the hump with a padded armrest.  Like new black carpeting is showing throughout, and the rear bench is just like the front buckets and very clean.  Up front the dash was stripped and sanded then repainted black with a new dash pad installed.  A nice long oval black textured panel is housing the round gauges which are lined up perfectly, and have beautiful near immaculate shiny bezels and chromed plastic framing encircling the oval.  Like new door panels also in black vinyl sport pristine handles and cranks.  A digital radio which fits nicely into the original radio space is in the center of the dual eyebrow cowls seen on either side.  The steering wheel fronting the dash has drilled chromed ribs, and has a black plastic edging.  On the hump is a shiny T handle automatic shift lever.  Just an overall showroom correct and beautiful presentation. Drivetrain Prior to the body restoration, the original engine was pulled, and a consigner stated 302ci was inserted.  Meanwhile, a full on restoration of the entire bay was performed.  We now have a beautiful blue painted valve cover and block mill.  It is topped with a single 2 barrel carburetor, and there is a 3-speed automatic C4 transmission on the back.  The rear is now a Ford 8 inch version. Undercarriage Former, (emphasis on FORMER), rust was remediated with a weld in of new floor pans several years prior to the body restoration.  There are independent coil springs upfront, and leaf springs oil back.  Power disc braking is on the front and power drum braking is on back.  A stock exhaust is snaking its way rearward preparing for the dual exit.  Exhale heavily! Drive-Ability With an example of this quality we were looking closely for any faults and on the mechanical end the car fired right up and on the test track ran good, but noticed it runs just a little rough.  There was a slight rotational grinding noise from the rear axle and the heater blower did not blow.  Oth
