Description:
The St. Louis Car Museum is proud to offer a special order Rolls Royce Silver Cloud III that is finished beautifully in a factory color combination, as well as, nicely equipped with electric window lifts, power steering, air conditioning, outside mirrors, front badge bar, and lambskin interior rugs! This is a 3-owner Rolls Royce example with numbers matching drivetrain with excellent looks both inside and out! History of the Rolls Royce Silver Cloud III: The Silver Cloud model replacing the important but not tremendously popular Silver Dawn in 1955, offering a body-on-frame construction, that permitted both the typical Pressed Steel Company bodies but as well as alternate configurations. In its sophomore year, the model introduced power steering and air conditioning to the Rolls-Royce line for the first time, which was successful but by 1959 Rolls-Royce sought to further separate itself from the competition and introduced a new 6.2L V8, which replaced the old 4.9L Inline 6. The car became known as the Silver Cloud II, which was equally successful over its three-year run. Power steering became standard and power windows found their way onto the options list. But it wasn\'t until 1963 when the ultimate Silver Cloud was released, which featured a 220 lb. lighter body with new quad headlights, upgraded 2 SU carburetors that replaced the previous 1¾ units, and 9:1 compression. The Silver Cloud III became one of the best high speed luxury saloons of the 1960\'s. Seeing as the latest Silver Cloud is now over 50 years old and possesses more of earth\'s natural resources than most modern luxury sedans, they should be seen as a staple in any Rolls-Royce collection for its combination of elegant styling with modern drivability. Details about this Rolls Royce Silver Cloud III For Sale: We are pleased to offer this 1965 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud III finished in factory ordered Shell Grey Metallic over Scarlett Red Leather Hides, Fawn headliner, and Cherry Red carpets! This classic Rolls Royce, now available in St. Louis, MO, is fitted with its original, number matching 6.2L V8 engine with Hydramatic automatic transmission and 3.08:1 rear axle. Without doubt, the vehicle continues to start, run, and drive wonderfully! Features include Rolls Royce factory electric windows, Firestone white-sided tubeless tires (now Coker American Classic radials measuring 235/75R15), Lucas fog lamps, plain Sundyn window glass, passenger vanity mirrors, Blaupunkt New Yorker AM/FM radio with electric aerial (updated to a Pioneer AM/FM/CD/Sat-ready unit), and electric rear window defrost. Later additions include air conditioning, dual outside mirrors, lambskin rugs in Scarlett Red, front badge bar, and Irvin Safety 3-point seat belts upfront and standard lap belts in the rear. It was originally ordered new by Mr. George D. Cornell for his wife Harriet W. Cornell. George was a generous philanthropist originally based in Central Valley, NY, but after graduating Rollins College in Orlando in 1935, he became a longtime resident of the Delray Beach, FL. The Cornell\'s are best known for their connection to New York\'s Cornell University, which George\'s descendants founded in 1865. His own father had been part of the first graduating class of law students in 1889 and went on to work as a prominent attorney in New York before becoming the director and legal counsel for the IBM Corporation throughout his entire life. George and Harriet would take delivery on September 24th, 1965 and use their gorgeous Silver Cloud III frequently until 1989, maintaining ownership all their lives and only parting with this stunning classic Rolls Royce after settling their estate in 2003. The vehicle\'s well-documented service records show that this particular model would receive consistent service from new through December 1989. At the time the car had 91,241 miles on the odometer. When it sold in 2003 to the second owners based in Bristol, VA in October 2003,
