The E-type is one of those rare gifts to the automotive
world, the result of a passionate team with a
clear focus. William Lyons, founder and president
of Jaguar, had a keen eye for style and a sense of
taste that became the cornerstone of Jaguar.
In 1950, he employed Malcolm Sayer, a brilliant mathematician and engineer with an intrinsic passion for automobiles, to shape the sensuous body of the E-type.
Taking what it had learned on the track with the D-type and applying that to its new model, Jaguar’s new E-type featured a monocoque passenger compartment and tail section, a tube-framed engine bay, and a tilting bonnet.
With its well-appointed interior, civilized 4.2-liter six-cylinder engine, and a compliant suspension, the E-type was an ideal two-place sports car.
Still sporting it’s original engine although slightly uprated for performance and reliability with Pertronix ignition and a mild cam, this car has benefited from some modern day improvements that make it extremely comfortable to drive such as the addition of a 5-speed Tremec transmission, aluminum radiator and electric cooling fan. All work has been done with complete respect for the cars original heritage and integrity.
1E10204 rolled off the Castle Bromwich assembly line on October 21, 1964, in pale Primrose Yellow with a black hood and interior. On November 2, 1964 Jaguar Cars, New York sold the car to first owner, R.V. Osmun, Inc.
It is not known how long Osmun kept the car. In November, 1988 George Grabowich of N. Plainfield, NJ purchased 1E10204 and kept it until he sold it to famed Jaguar historian and restorer Terry Larson of Mesa, AZ. Terry’s wife, Darlene used the car as a daily driver until it was purchased by it’s current owner in June of 2007.
1E10204 is still sporting it’s original chassis, engine and body as noted on the Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace Certificate which accompanies the car. It is all numbers matching with the exception of a much more user friendly 5-speed Tremic transmission.
