Description:
1965 Ford Mustang Coupe Mustang, Mustang, Mustang! to quote the television advertising in 1965. All the while urging you to walk on your wild side, and your personality will go from dull to a thriller when you get behind the wheel of a 1965 Ford Mustang! For consignment, a tasteful car that has been built to improve on the original and harken back to the early 1970\'s. A 1964.5 Mustang, born a U code 170 inline 6 now sporting a worked 302 and a 4-speed manual transmission. All rust remediated, a new paint job, new interior, upgraded suspension and brakes this car is ready to cruise to the local burger joint and maybe partake in a less than legal drag race on the marked off 1/4 mile. Read on and hold on, this one is gonna go fast! Exterior Before undertaking the paint work this Mustang was gutted to a bare shell, sandblasted and had all rust remediated. The floors, cowl panel, trunk drop offs, rear cross member, 1/4 panels, outer wheel houses, and the right door are just a few of the areas touched. Then beautiful black paint was applied and buffed to perfection, with just a few minor faults definitely which are unremarkable. Dual wide white painted stripes run from stem to stern and draw attention to the straight steel of the exterior of this car. A fiberglass cowl induction hood was installed along with Shelby hood springs. Original 15 and 14 chrome Cragar wheels are bolted on and are wrapped in blackwall 15 Mickey Thompson rubber in the front and period-correct L60-14 rubber in the rear. Giddyup!!! Interior Looking inside we are met with original door panels covered in pristine black tuck and roll vinyl mounted in the white textured steel door shells. Ultra clean white buckets up front and a rear bench are looking like new and not showing a single mark. A Hurst super short shifter can be seen on the hump and lets you row the gears with ease. There is a newly installed dash pad, original cluster and an added in Shelby style gauge pod with a CS tachometer and oil pressure gauge. The original AM radio is still within its original mounting location with the heater controls and ashtray just below. New black carpet floods the floors meanwhile a black 6-point roll bar has been installed to keep the occupants safe in case of an errant rollover. A crisp, tight white headliner hangs above. All wrapped up in here like a freshly pressed tuxedo! Drivetrain A beautiful blinged out 302ci V8 which has been bored over .30 and had a fairly radical hydraulic cam installed. Also, aluminum heads have been bolted on along with roller rockers, an original dual point distributor, an Edelbrock Airgap intake manifold and a beefed-up Holley 700cfm 4bbl carburetor. Keeping all this performance cool is an aluminum radiator with a temperature sensing electric cooling fan. A rebuilt Toploader 4-speed manual transmission with a 2.88 first gear is bolted to the back and sends power to a Ford 8 rear axle with a 3.80 TracLok gear set. Undercarriage All good under here with no rust, new rear leaf springs have been installed along with Shelby style rear traction bars. Front disc brakes from a 1968/69 Torino have been added and drum brakes bring up the rear. Headers feed into Turbo mufflers before exiting through Shelby style side exhaust. A newer fuel tank along with fuel lines and brake lines are also noted. Drive-Ability All the candles lit right up, running on all 8 cylinders, and gave us a real ride and a beautiful symphony from that Shelby style exhaust. No complaints here on form or function. I had my eyes open on my drive to see if I could drum up an impromptu street race but all I found was the drive thru lane at McDonalds and my healthy lunch of nuggets and fries. One item to note is this car is tuned to run on 110 leaded race fuel but can easily be detuned to accommodate common pump gas. Keeping its original exterior with just a few modifications, and most of the interior, this consignor did a fab job
