Description:1963 Ford Thunderbird Hardtop The Thunderbird and the Corvette have a long and sorted history, with both initially competing for the same customer space. Eventually the Corvette went to racing, and the Thunderbird became the boulevard king. The ultimate getaway car from the kids with a two seat configuration (rear seat is there but covered by cowlings) with a convertible cruiser, it became the it car for early 1960\'s suburbia. With design queues courtesy the jet age, its bullet like front appearance, and jet engine tail lights was keying into the upwardly mobile middle class, and growing suburbia. Offered for consignment is a 1963 Ford Thunderbird hardtop with a Rose Beige exterior and matching Rose Beige vinyl interior. 1963 was the last production year of the third generation of T-birds. A total production of 214,375 units were produced and this unit was originally sold in the Los Angeles, CA sales district, finally making its way to the East Coast in the 1990\'s. Restored and repainted before our consignor\'s ownership tenure and looking damn snappy to this day, loaded with factory options including an AM/FM radio, power windows, and AC, this low slung cruiser will look good on the prowl down Main St. and you\'ll drive with confidence thanks to the detailed maintenance spreadsheet and slew of repair receipts from the last 8 years of ownership. Exterior This Rose Beige bullet shaped hardtop model presents in good overall condition with minor inclusions in the finish, however one must look carefully to find these faults. From the huge wrap-under front bumper to the tail light encompassing rear bumper, the chrome and bright work are correct and in fine shape. From its bullet nose to the thruster rear tail lights straight steel with well minded gaps abound and 3 chromed faux jet intake appliqués adorn each exterior door panel and add to the jet look. Glass is all good and fender skirts on the back frame standard issue thruster style wheel covers with faux knockoff hubs are wrapped in deeply treaded thin white banded rubber. Certainly, one of the coolest designs to fly out of Detroit, Michigan. Interior Rose Beige vinyl, original to the car, is seen and is in full glory, with nice bucket seats in front, and a bench in the back. A sleek console makes its way to the dash, and houses the vinyl covered console glove box, power window switches, and ashtray. Horizontal ribbed aluminum snakes its way up to the dash, and proceeds to spread out from side to side over the dash front, and houses the heater and AC airflow controls, light switches, logos and a very cool swing away steering wheel. Above this are 2 beige vinyl winglike structures, (can you say bird?), that form the padded dash top. A speaker, the factory AM/FM radio, and 3-gauge cluster is within these swoops, and all appear in excellent condition. Rose Beige medium loop carpeting floods the floors and is protected by matching color carpeted floor mats. Looking upward reveals a beige perforated vinyl headliner with a few seam separations to note. Power steering, power driver\'s seat, and power brakes are installed options. Drivetrain The car presented has gone through a thorough mechanical upkeep as necessary which includes a transmission overhaul, detailed oil change records and a conversion to R134A for the AC system as well as a coolant flush, new hoses, and a new expansion tank. The heart and soul of this bird is the original 390ci V8 capable of making 300hp thanks to the 4bbl carburetor perched under the gold painted air cleaner assembly. Bolted to the back is a Cruise-O-Matic 3-speed automatic transmission that sends power back to a 3.00 geared Ford 9 rear axle. As per our consignors notes the power steering box and pump and were both replaced in 2017 Undercarriage Factory undercoating and rustproofing bathes the undercarriage, which due to said coatings is rust free with just minor surface rust appearing on the usual suspects.
