Description:
1961 Chevrolet Bel Air 4 Door Sedan If ever a car was right for its time, it\'s Chevrolet for \'61! Here is the neatly tailored simplicity you\'ve been asking for. Its clean lines combined with a trim new size, (a practical plus for getting around town). Its anodized aluminum grille is classically clean and Chevy\'s new slanting windshield pillars blend beautifully with its distinctively new roof styling. In this 1961 Chevrolet you are seeing the new trend of the Sixties! From the 1961 sales brochure. For consignment, a 1961 Chevrolet Bel Air 4 door with a title verified 44,751 actual miles, garage kept during our consignor\'s ownership, and wearing a wonderful shade of blue. Forget the front pillars, look at that rear window detail! Wow. Exterior Two stage Dark Metallic Blue covers this classic which allows the polished metal elements to really pop. We\'re talking about a car length body spear that turns up at the tail and continues around, dipping on the decklid and underlined by a straight, clean rear bumper. Twin antennae make a bold design statement aside from just looking cool and the extended roofline over the wrapped rear glass is incredible. The side windows mirror each other, and it almost appears as this car can be driven in either direction and still look like it\'s going forward! Quad headlights and a shimmering grille and bumper in front look fantastic and subtle body lines on the hood and trunk along with fender ornaments gently guide flowing air up and around the car. 15-inch Chevrolet Rally wheels are on all four corners. Imperfections are limited to a surface scratch and one two part scratch that is a bit deeper in the metallic paint. Interior Wonderfully designed door panels are topped by a white header, navy center, and light blue bottom with three white stripes stitched in horizontally, all in great shape. The white header rides over the cloth bench seat in gray, light blue, with dark blue accent stripes and the rear bench mirrors the design, both seats looking very nice and represent the original interior design. Sixties simplicity is demonstrated by the steering wheel and the gauge cluster which consists of a horizontal speedometer and jet-age inspired round gauges under it. The shifter is on the column and the buttons on the dash are robust metal units that shine with reflection. An AM/FM radio is in the center of the painted dash and the passenger has a rounded simple shelf in front and an aftermarket center console has been added, more of an aqua color, and includes a storage bin and two cup holders. Looped blue carpet covers the floor nicely and the stitched gray headliner is in good condition. The trunk is unlined but seemingly large enough to park your Corvair in, or at least a few golf bags. Drivetrain The airy engine bay is clean and houses a 235.5ci inline 6 cylinder engine with a light blue valve cover and a 2-barrel carburetor. It\'s rated at 135 horsepower and is backed by three on the tree 3-speed manual transmission sending the power back to 3.36 gears. Drum brakes are all around. Undercarriage With a car this nice on top, we hold our breath as the lift rises and hope for the best. It\'s not bad underneath and surface rust covers the X-frame, axle, and other usual places. The single exhaust is clean and follows the line of the frame, intersects with a stock style muffler, then exits just behind the left rear wheel. We note some oil on the rear differential. It looks relatively fresh and might be coming back from the pinion seal. There\'s residual oil on the pan, and some fluid presence and some grease build up on the wheel knuckles. Invasive rust is noted on a body brace and on its seam. Suspension consists of coil springs in front, and a 3-link with coil springs and a panhard bar in the rear. Drive-Ability We slide into this time capsule and refresh our three on the tree skills, which takes us onto the test loop for a little functionality
