Rare 1955 Hudson Metropolitan coupe being offered for sale from the estate of a vintage car and truck collector. Built in January 1955, this car is one of only 4,356 Series II Metropolitan models badged as a Hudson. This car’s original color combination was “P904-7” (meaning “Canyon Red” body with a “Mist Grey” top), but has since been repainted in grey over blue. The original “T1” interior trim (Bedford stripe pattern cloth with beige vinyl) has been re-trimmed in black and white vinyl.
This car has its original 4 cylinder 1,200cc Austin engine and 3-speed manual transmission. Some minor refurbishment and maintenance work is needed to maintain its “reliable driver” status. More significantly, this car is an excellent candidate for a complete restoration considering it has a very solid, virtually rust-free body with complete trim pieces and chrome parts. All glass is in good condition, including spares for the rear quarter and backlight windows. The undercarriage shows the typical surface rust on components and some bushing deterioration, but the body, floor and chassis are all solid and rust-free. Clean title.
Fans of the very unique and ahead-of-its-time Metropolitan know that NOS/replacement parts for virtually every component of these cars are readily available to support the ongoing demand for solid “survivors” like this one. Many more pictures available and questions answered by email.
