1941 Ford Business Coupe In mid-September 1940, Henry Ford -- in his last appearance at a new car introduction -- received 500 reporters to see the new 1941 Ford models. True to form, he said little, but the car said a lot about the company\'s willingness to go with the flow. The 1941s were the first of the fat Fords, with a clean contemporary look that was right in tune with the era. Further, Ford now even offered a flathead six, a clear concession to the competition. For consignment, a custom Ford business coupe. Slightly modded and upgraded, refreshed with new materials and designs, and an engine upgrade, (302ci V8), to make it loud and proud. An all-steel car, all buttoned up and shaved a touch in back for the aero look. A phat fat Ford if you will. Exterior Bathed in Black Cherry paint, we see straight slab steel panels, rounded front quarters, and a small running board connecting to a smaller rear fender. Rounded is the key word for the design of this car. From the front bumper to the rear bumper, we note nothing else but curvaceous curves. The backs of said bumpers have been darkened and now make an interesting reflection on the front grille. It took me a while but \'tis the reflection of the back of the bumper in those grilles. A tall knobbed front hood, floats above the vertical ribbed V curved grille, and dual side grilles flanking it. Headlights are embedded into the front fenders and some chromed bullet style turn signals under the lights and are next to the grille. On the rear are a vertical rectangular blue dot taillight with a shiny surrounding bezels. A rounded trunk which is very spacious and also restored is between the tail lighting. Rounded corner side windows and a rear oval window are noted to be cut onto the body. These have designs engraved into them showing a mermaid in a tropical waters and island setting. Mele kalikimaka is Hawaii\'s way...but I digress. And on the other side a rose. 15-inch Torque Thrust polished wheels are on all 4 corners. These are wrapped by 195/70R14\'s in front, and larger 235/70R15\'s on back. Interior A swing of the large doors and we can shake hands with gray velour broadcloth which is buttoned. Some wear from the turning of the handles is noted along with slight staining in the middles. The sills are painted in Black Cherry. Looking towards the seats, which are courtesy a Ford Taurus, and in high back bucket styling with center fold down arms, and covered in gray broadcloth, showing nicely. Gray carpeting covers the floors neatly and in the center is a Mustang style T shifter. A tilt steering wheel is fronting a Black Cherry painted dash that has a horizontal lineup of satin finished bezeled gauges stretching across the dash. This all metal dash also has an aftermarket AM/FM/CD player in front of the passenger seat. The back of the compartment is now seatless and just covered with gray carpeting. A gray felted padded panel headliner is floating above. Drivetrain A lift of the big bulbous hood, and we have engine bling bling blinding us. It\'s now a stout 302ci V8. This has beautifully cast ribbed valve coverings, and a large intake manifold up top. Gray wiring snakes its way to each cylinder, and nice supple hoses are all over this engine. The manifold has a 4-barrel Holley carburetor topping it, and on back is a newer C4 3-speed automatic. A Ford 8-inch rear TracLoc axle has been put on. Undercarriage All very clean and rust free with a solid drilled X frame supporting the car with ease. Floor pans and rockers are excellent as are toe kicks and inner fenders. A Mustang II front end suspension and a leaf spring rear suspension are seen, as are disc brakes upfront and drum brakes on back. A clean and rust free Flowmaster exhaust snakes its way from the engine to the X frame crossover where it has short exit piping aimed towards the rockers. Drive-Ability A quick fire up and I was off to the test track where this car pe
