FOR SALE: 1939 Ford Deluxe
Burleson , Texas
This is a 1939 Ford Deluxe Fordor. It was featured
in the July/Aug 2006 issue of the "THE V8 TIMES"
magazine. My father found this car in a barn near
Vernon, Texas in 1972. He bought it from the man
who bought it new in 1939. It was in excellent
condition in the 1970s.
It has a clean Texas Title. It has an all steel body
and frame. It has never been wrecked. I am the
third owner, my father was the second.
The transmission is the one that it came from the
factory with: three on the floor. The VIN on the frame
matches the VIN on the transmission, proving that it
is the transmission that Ford put in it in 1939. It also
still has the original torque tube and rear end. They
all work great.
We did an off-the-frame restoration that began about
16 years ago, trying to keep it as original as
possible. It was professionally painted by Roger
Holcomb (who called his shop “Body by Roger”) of
Burleson, TX in 2003. He used multiple coats of a
high quality urethane paint. The paint looks like a
show car’s. The interior was restored by Gwen's
Upholstery of Cleburne, TX, in 2004. We replaced
the original mohair seat fabric with high quality
modern material that looks identical to mohair.
When not being driven, the car has been staying in a
climate-controlled building for 14 years. As you can
see, the external paint and interior look new.
I am now selling this family heirloom because it
should be enjoyed by someone who will have fun
with it. It now rarely gets outside, but runs great!!
It has a very strong period-correct 59A-B flathead
V8. This engine has less than 400 miles on it since
it was rebuilt. It burns no oil and runs great. We
kept the original Six Volt system intact. I did break
with the original by adding seatbelts and an Optima
battery. The wide whitewall tires have less than 400
miles on them.
EVERYTHING WORKING: The Choke and Throttle
knobs on the dash work properly. All four
instruments in the Dash Cluster (Engine Temp, Oil
pressure, Amp meter, and Fuel level) work properly.
All windows operate correctly. The speedometer
and the clock in the glovebox cover both work. The
roll-out windshield works properly, as does the cowel
vent. The original vacuum-powered wipers work.
The rear side windows both open properly on their
hinges and close tightly. All four doors shut properly.
The "suicide doors" work properly. I have four
different keys for this car, each fits a lock that works
properly: the ignition on\off switch, the glove box, the
passenger door, and the trunk latch. The headlights
dimmer switch works properly. All the lights burn
correctly. From the factory, Ford originally put two
horns in this Deluxe, and they both still blow loudly.
For the sake of it’s history and because it is the
original one, I did not put a new odometer in it. It is
frozen at 80,009. The odometer is the only thing
that does not work on this car. The speedometer
NEW: We did install new stainless steel on the grill.
We installed new welting between the fenders and
body, new glove box, new glass in every window,
new running board covers, a new starter, new
gauges, new interior handles, new wood covers for
the storage bins in the trunk, a new trunk floor pad,
new side-view mirrors, a new hood ornament and
hood release, and a new fuel tank. We re-chromed
the bumpers; they look new. Both bumpers have
correct blue stripe down the middle. A new clutch
