Description:1931 Ford Model A Roadster Pickup The Ford Motor Company, with its F-series, has long held the distinction of building the best selling trucks in America. That distinction dates back many decades, as Ford\'s commercial Model A and AA variants were also the most popular in their day. The best selling Ford truck of 1931 was the closed cab pickup, which brought passenger car style mixed with traditional pickup hauling capabilities and some new features to the market. For consignment, a 1931 Ford Model A Roadster pickup. A roadster was included in Ford\'s truck lineup beginning in 1928 but with the weather protection afforded by the closed cab trucks, production of the open pickups, as they were called, stood at just 2,637 in 1931. This example gracing our Hallowed Halls is showing a mere 5,503 miles which cannot be verified to be actual as the title reads mileage exempt. Exterior The Apple Green body and bed over black fenders and yellow wire wheels with wide white walls presents a dramatic vision that is bright and whimsical. The radiator shell features a green scallop on top and the body wears a yellow pinstripe in some well coordinated styling features. A perfectly vertical windscreen is framed in green and wears a narrow visor while the engine covers contain a long series of vertical louvers for heat dissipation. Door handles have been shaved on this permanently open vehicle and pressure treated wood planks like the bed which also has a chained tailgate to allow for loading. A wide running board connects the fenders and provides a step up for occupants. The paint and metalwork are in good condition. Imperfections noted include paint runs, a chip on a fender, a tear in the metal on a fender end, a large scuff across a fender, and a smaller scuff. Interior The doors lack any kind of panel and are painted in the Apple Green. A simple bench seat is constructed of dark green vinyl. A 4 spoke steering wheel shares its slim column with a turn signal unit and leads to a basic dash which is a blended steel part of the car and painted green. The center plate is the gauge cluster and ignition port, and all appears in original condition. The tall shifter rises from the floor, which is flat and covered with a rubberized mat, cut to fit and in good shape. Drivetrain Behind the engine cover is a driver quality but clean 201ci inline four cylinder rated at 40 horses and fueled by a 1-barrel carburetor. The 3-speed manual transmission sends power to the rear wheels and 3.78 gears. Mechanical drum brakes are up front and out back. Undercarriage A spare tire on a wire wheel is mounted underneath the bed and the underside of the car is clean and rust free. The exhaust is colored by surface rust and is a single unit that intersects a stock style muffler before coming to an end under the truck. Transverse leaf springs are found in the front and back and some residual oil was noted on the oil pan. Drive-Ability Well, this is a fun little vintage ride with a cheerful color. The 4 popper runs well and carries us through the test route where the car tracks straight as 4.75/5.00-19 tires can and brakes well. The horn blows occasionally while turning the wheel but all other functions on this uncomplicated 1931 Ford work as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. Here\'s a 1931 Ford Model A that\'s just a bit different from the typical cars of the era. It has a usable bed, an open cabin, and a very bright exterior. Whereas a typical 1931 will get you looks, this one is bound to produce smiles whether it\'s in a car show or tooling down a parade route.
