It could be shown and enjoyed as it is, or one may choose to use it as an excellent platform for a full-concours quality restoration. Packard production in 1930 was down tremendously due to the Great Depression, making this car rarer than most other classic Packards. This classic is a rare Rear mount. Very few made with this option. Collector interest remains very high for these cars and they have proven to be very sound investments over time. According to London based investment research firm, Historic Automobile Group International, classic cars have appreciated an average of 15-percent per year since 1980 – while stocks averaged 10-percent over the same period.
The Packard 740 Custom Super Eight Deluxe Eight were powered by a 384.8 cubic-inch engine that produced 106 horsepower. The 740 rode on a wheelbase that measured 140.5-inches New for this year was the four-speed transmission and a 4.69 rear axle ratio. Rear mounted spare tires were custom option on the 740 , making it special and very few made.
Coachbuilders were given the opportunity to cloth the 740.
This Packard 740 Custom Super Eight Coupe is finished in two shades of silver and maroon tan interior. The interior is tan all original and there is a wood-grain dash, real wood not plastic. There are many accessories such as driving lights, a radiator stone guard, Packard mirrors, and chromed wire wheels mounted with tall white-wall tires. The Adonis mascot can be found on the hood, a very desirable ornament and one of the most desirable to adorn the Packards.
Features on this classic is, rumble seat in leather (maroon) with courtesy light for the passengers. Anthid flip up arm rest in leather. The rear window in this classic rolls down to give excess to the passengers. This 740 has the option of the front window that tilts out to give driver and passenger air flow to the cabin.
