The Mercedes Benz UNIMOG 404 is a four-wheel-drive, all-terrain vehicle with 17\" of
ground clearance that was originally built for the German/Swiss military. They are
highly adaptable and can be customized to support many types of auxiliary equipment.
The UNIMOG was developed after WWII and eventually specialized as an agricultural
vehicle. Not quite tractor and not quite truck, it would be a great option for a
farmers who needed something that could plough the fields and bring their produce to
market. The third Mercedes-Benz UNIMOG body style of the 1953-1962 period was the
Type U404, also known as the UNIMOG-S, it used a 24 volt electric system and had a
2.2 liter (134 cubic inch) 82 hp, 6-cylinder gasoline engine. Today the 404 is very
popular among camper and off road/rock crawling enthusiasts because of its 4x4
capabilities. This UNIMOG has been upgraded with and additional 12 volt electrical
system and has had the engine/transmission rebuilt by the Swiss military before
being exported at 30,000 miles. This vehicle is absolutely street legal, it is
sitting on a set of 38\" Super Swamper tires on custom 16.5\" rims. The engine has
been upgraded with a high compression head, header and fuel pump. The side storage
boxes have been relocated into the bed for better ground clearance. It comes with
troop carrier benches, cargo boxes, canopy supports and full canvas top to cover
bed, 10,000 lbs wench, PTO drive shaft, clamp down hitch, among many other extras.
The portal axles are highly desirable, I have been offered $5,000 for the set by
them selves. The truck has shift on the fly four wheel drive with selectable locking
differentials (front/rear and the same time), six forward gears and 2 reverse gears.
