Vehicle Description

This 1927 Chevrolet touring is an extremely unusual find. With right-hand drive, it was an export vehicle that probably spent its life in South America or even Australia, but found its way home for a complete restoration. With spirited performance and stylish good looks, it\'s a cool alternative to the vastly more common Model A and Model T. The colors are very period correct and very nicely done, with soft green bodywork and darker green fenders and trim. Combined with the rakish folding top, it gives this lovely Chevy a sporty look that matches its upbeat demeanor. The bodywork is quite well done, although it\'s not fair to compare a wood-framed touring car that probably spent the first twenty years of its life on unpaved roads to something more modern. But these were rugged cars, built for their environment, and fit and finish are superb. All four doors open and close easily, the hood doesn\'t bind, and the surfaces are impressively flat and shiny. The grille, headlight trim, and bumpers have been re-plated and there\'s a single taillight out back. Also note that turn signals have been neatly integrated into the rear bumpers, which is a big improvement in safety. The interior of this 5-passenger touring is lovely dark green leatherette, which shows almost no wear since it was completed a few years ago. Matching door panels are simple, as they were originally, and accommodations are modest. Up front, there\'s a rubber floor mat, but rear seat occupants are treated to carpets and a foot rest, both common in the late \'20s.The steering wheel is a massive wooden piece that feels awesome in your hands and makes it surprisingly easy to wheel the little Chevy around without power steering (which wouldn\'t show up for another three decades). Instrumentation is limited, but the controls are easy to understand. Overhead there\'s a newer black vinyl top, which folds into a neat stack behind the back seat, affording open-air motoring for five. 1927 pre-dated the famous \"Stovebolt Six\" engine, but the 4-cylinder unit under the hood of this car was more than a match for a comparable Ford Model T. It\'s a tidy little machine that fires to life with a little choke and a press of the floor-mounted starter pedal, and has the most delightful exhaust note. Some of the components under the hood have been painted Chevy Orange, which wasn\'t technically correct for 1927, but looks good nonetheless. Underneath, the chassis is quite clean, with a 3-speed manual transmission and solid axles front and rear. It\'s best to give yourself some extra stopping space in traffic, as the brakes are on the rear wheels only, but they look fantastic stashed behind those gorgeous wood spoke wheels. Four appropriate-looking 4.50-21 Excelsior tires have been fitted to the original demountable rims. If you\'re looking for something a little different from the run-of-the-mill Fords, this wonderful Chevy is a great choice. Reliable, fun, and quite handsome, it\'s ready to enjoy this summer.
