Vehicle Description

Always a favorite with customizers, the 1961 Chevrolet Impala \"bubble top\" is an awesome blend of performance and style. This particular red and black example is a very impressive machine indeed, with a built 409 under the hood, a stunning paint job, and a beautifully executed interior. The curves of the Impala practically demand a two-tone paint scheme, and while the factory didn\'t do it, skilled artists like the guys who built this one are able to bring out all the fine details inherent in the shape. The lovely SS side trim makes for a perfect break point, with the pointed eyebrow just above the headlights and grille leading the way. The black and red also weave their way across the dramatic rear panel, where the deep V of the deck lid frames the crossed-flag emblems of the 409. The finish is first rate, and not some backyard spray job, and is perhaps best illustrated by the slender silver pinstripe that divides the two colors as they wrap around the nose of the car. All the original chrome and trim remains intact, brilliantly polished or re-chromed to show standards, and the car simply glitters like a jewel in the sunlight. With Chevy\'s designers hitting on all eight cylinders in 1961, there was no need to do any dramatic upgrades inside. Instead, the original bench seats have been reupholstered in original style black vinyl with crisp brightwork framing the seatbacks. The engine-turned dash is simply spectacular, so it was restored to new condition and all the original gauges remain with a trio of auxiliary gauges mounted underneath. There\'s a mini console for the 4-speed shifter, complete with crossed-flag emblem and a cue ball atop the Hurst gear lever, and the two-tone steering wheel is a perfect touch. An original AM radio remains in the dash, fed its signal from a single deck-mounted antenna that\'s a piece of sculpture all by itself. Open the cavernous trunk and you\'ll find correct spatter finish, new mats, and enough room for a month\'s worth of road trip. Big props to the builders for using a real-deal 409. Recognizable by its beautifully shaped valve covers, the engine has been bored .060 oversize and now spins a high-lift cam for a decidedly wicked idle. Dual Edelbrocks live under their own air cleaners, designed to show off the machinery instead of hiding it under a massive stock unit. And it\'s all bathed in a coat of bright Chevy Orange, just as the General would have done it. Dual exhaust snakes through the X-frame, terminating just behind the Flowmasters with inboard-mounted turn-downs to give it just the right rumble. There\'s no rust, no damage, and those gorgeous 17-inch American Racing wheels are the perfect mix of old and new, especially when surrounded by low-profile performance rubber. This car is every bit as nice as it looks in photos, and with the thumping 409 under the hood, it\'s equipped to break more than a few hearts. Call today!
