Vehicle Description

The one and only URBAN SUBURBAN meticulously built by RB’s Auto Obsolete and Friends. I bought this beautiful vehicle about a year ago. If this vehicle were to be built again it would cost easily over $330K to replicate and that is if you could find the right team to do it. It is for sale for $115 cash. Many of you car enthusiast are familiar with this early Chevrolet Phantom Suburban Creation. This vehicle is truly a one-of-kind creation, it was designed and illustrated by Chris Ito. You will probably notice a taste of the Chevy Nomad in its design. Chris was also involved with the design of the 1971 G-Force Plymouth Cuda as well and has worked hand in hand with car designer magician Chip Foose in many projects. Ray Doe, the president of RB’s Obsolete started this project with a super straight unmolested California early stock Chevy Panel Truck. Mr. Doe has built many beautiful rides. This one, was special. The Urban Suburban was for himself. With his basic goal and understanding of “old” blended with “new” he planned to keep this vehicle. It was much more functional compared to a pickup hauler and seats four very comfortably. Ray could also use it to represent his Company and represent it, it did. This vehicle has been in many issues of Rod and Custom, Custom Trucks, Trucking, "How to Paint Flames," Book, RB’s catalogs, many car part brochure’s and many other places.

Most of the stock body parts were used and the only altered sheet metal was made to meet the designs and illustrations of Chris Ito. Chris was given the design task, to meet Ray’s and son Scott’s ideas of their new Phantom Suburban. Ray’s idea to maintain as much of the pristine body find was important. Although, the rest of the truck and components are completely new from the ground up. I personally believe the lines of the panel truck model make a much better candidate for creating a modern time SUV. This project was no easy task for even these highly professional craftmen and I would venture to say, much more work went into the project than originally anticipated!

This truck is one of the most documented builds you will find. All that was done is fully documented and photographed. I have records and a DVD disc of this build that show over 1,300 pictures. The steps, labor of work and the level of car artists involved in this project are worth honorable mention. From the records I received at the time of purchase, I found the sum of hours for all body work and complete “HOUSE OF KOLOR” paint job to be over 2,300 hours of labor. The paint materials alone was just under $10,000.00. When I think of the high level of talent that performed this build, I can’t help but think of some of the labor rates here in the California bay area, being close to a $100 an hour. Well, do the math. Over $230K for body and paint? Although, that is a big part of this build, the experienced car builder knows there is a heck of a lot more to this one-of-a-kind vehicle than body and paint! From veteran designer and illustrator “Chris Ito”, to Kinbridge Enterprises for hours and hours of body prep, to more hours of final body prep and paint by “Chris Odom” of Extreme Metals, to “Mike Lavallee”(of “KILLER PAINT” and “TRUE FIRE”) who applied the “Rip Graphics” to match Chris Ito’s design illustration, to Metal Magician “Alan Swedberg” to make the metal changes appear OEM, to “Mike Cox” at the Glass House for some dramatic glass addition, to Jim Carr’s upholstery work of art, to the expertise of “Frank Beck” of Beck Racing Engines. Frank and his team were responsible for building the power plant for the

Urban Suburban. The G.M. 496 cubic inch MAX VELOCITY PLUS ENGINE is balanced, blueprinted and dynoed. This engine generates 564 H.P. @ 5600 RPM and 563 FT. lbs. of Torque @4600 RPM. Mr. Doe switched the 400 Turbo Transmission with a new 700 R-4 transmission with overdrive to mate with his BRE power plant. What an awesome team and what an awesome job!

There are many “Rod and Custom” articles on the net featuring the “URBAN SUBURBAN”. A general list of what this vehicle has going for it is as follows: Highly professional body prep and “HOUSE OF KOLOR” paint, Hot Rod AC, Serious Hardware rolling chassis, Stainless Steel SSBC disc brakes 13" front & 14" in the rear, Mustang II front-end, PS. I have magazines with issues of the Urban Suburban, different company brochures and even a book of “HOW TO PAINT FLAMES” that features this beautiful vehicle. There is also a detail bag, T-shirts, Custom Show Car Display Sign and much more. The new owner is welcomed to all I have pertaining to the vehicle. There is 2,900 miles on the vehicle and all fluids are synthetic lubrication. I know there is some of you out there that like to own something that very few have seen. The exception is, if you do buy a well known vehicle, buy one that is not only very well known but is worth the notoriety. This vehicle is so photogenic and is truly awesome in person. You must see it in person to appreciate and believe how awesome it really is! I reserve the right to cancel this add due to other advertisements of sale for this vehicle. Thanks Bill Jhun. Unfortunately, there are people out there who will use classifieds to get your money. Here are some ways to avoid these scams. Use skepticism and good judgment.
  1. Be wary if the price is notably below market value.
  2. Be prudent with International transactions. A good number of buyer/seller fraud attempts originate from overseas.
  3. Confirm contact information. Legitimate buyers/sellers will provide valid information, including phone.
  4. In almost every case scammers will convey a sense of urgency.
