The world’s grandest single-day auto event is here again, and it promises to be more spectacular and exciting than ever before. This year’s Woodward Dream Cruise will be held on the 21st of August, 2010, and it will again take place on the famed Woodward Avenue in Oakland County, Michigan, traveling from the city of Pontiac to the State Fair Grounds in Detroit. The event will be attended by more than 1.5 million auto enthusiasts from around the world.
On the day of the event, over 40,000 classic cars will be seen cruising along Woodward Avenue, and these cars are mostly muscle cars, custom cars, hot rods, and special interest cars. Participants of the cruise will get the chance to visit some historically significant places along the way, including drive-ins and restaurants such as the Totem Pole, Ted’s, Hollywood, Big Boy, Suzie Q’s, and Wigwam. These iconic establishments offer cruisers a chance to relive an era that was best represented in movies and television shows such as American Graffiti, Grease, and the Happy Days. They were popular stopovers and meeting places for motorists from the 1950s to the 1970s.
The participating communities along Woodward Avenue will also be holding special events to welcome participants of the Woodward Dream Cruise. These communities include Ferndale, Royal Oak, Pleasant Ridge, Huntington Woods, Bloomfield, Pontiac, and Berkley.
