Record Sale for Aston Martin DB2
Posted by Steve White on Dec 09, 2009Despite the recession, classic car collectors are still spending big money in auctions. A new record was set at the RM Auction in London about a month ago. A 1950 Aston Martin DB2 race car was sold for a price of $910,865, which is the highest amount ever paid for a DB2.
This impeccable Aston Martin was owned by the same family for about 52 years, and it has an illustrious racing history, winning the 3-liter class competition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1951. Along with the car, the winning bidder also received an impressive set of documents, which include the original purchase invoice, a complete history file, and letters from Aston Martin owner David Brown that date back to the 1950s. The DB models were named after Brown’s initials.
The Aston Martin DB2s are some of the most prized classic cars today because of their elegant design and excellent performance. They were produced between 1950 and 1953, and they were equally impressive on the road as well as on the race track. These cars helped establish Aston Martin as one of the leading car manufacturers in Europe during the 1950s.
Although the 1950 Aston Martin DB2 “VMF 64” was the highlight of the RM Auction, it did not fetch the highest price of the day. A 2006 Mercedes Benz CLK GTR Roadster was sold for around $1 million.
