Bonhams has announced that it will be holding its Scottsdale Sale of Exceptional Motorcars auction on the 19th of January 2012 in Scottsdale, Arizona. This is the first time that the auction company is participating in the famous Scottsdale Car Week.
The main highlight of the collector car auction is a 1929 Rolls-Royce Phantom I Convertible Sedan that was once owned by screen goddess Marlene Dietrich. This splendid automobile served as the actress’ personal car, and it was gifted to her by legendary director Josef von Sternberg as a tribute to her outstanding performance as Lola Lola in the 1930 film Der Blaue Engel. The car made an appearance in the romantic film Morocco, another famous von Sternberg-Dietrich collaboration. Its estimated selling price at the auction is between $300,000 and $400,000.
A 1974 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow that was originally owned by famous artist Andy Warhol is estimated to fetch $40,000 to $60,000. The pop culture icon owned the car until he passed away in 1987, and his family sold it one year after his death. The car has had only two subsequent owners. Other notable cars that will cross the block at the Scottsdale Sale of Exceptional Motorcars auction include a 1924 Isotta Fraschini Tipo 8 Torpedo Tourer, 1929 Duesenberg Model J Convertible Sedan, and a 1932 Packard Model 904 Custom Convertible Victoria.
