FOR SALE: 1989 Buick Reatta
Designed as a halo vehicle for the entire Buick lineup, the Reatta was a mixed success for General Motors. With a powerful and reliable powertrain borrowed from the Riviera, an agile all-independent suspension, and a short, sporty 2-seat body full of every luxury option Buick could come up with, it really is a terrific driver\'s car. This 1989 Reatta coupe is a great example of the breed, and with a thriving enthusiast community, it\'s a great, inexpensive way to get into the hobby. Workmanship on these cars was actually quite good, and even today, more than 20 years later, it shows well. The paint was far better than the typical GM stuff of the period, and still has a nice shine and few signs of age. Sure, it\'s been driven and enjoyed, but this has also been a special car from day one, so you know it\'s been washed, waxed, and protected all its life. The styling was a mixed bag, but the design has aged gracefully and today it attracts attention on the street from curious onlookers who either don\'t remember the Reatta experiment or are too young to have seen it first-hand. Either way, people seem to really dig the bright red 2-seater with its folding headlights and radical wrap-around glass. When asked, most folks will guess a value several times the asking price, a tribute to the car\'s styling and presence. The two-seater owed a lot to the upscale and luxurious Riviera, with comfortable power bucket seats, a full console, and a comprehensive list of comfort and convenience features. Just about everything was standard on a Reatta, including A/C, power windows and locks, and a powerful stereo, all of it managed by a compact touch screen in the center of the dash. Digital gauges were all the rage back then, and with the entire dashboard lit up, the interior looks like the flight deck of a futuristic aircraft instead of an \'80s luxury sport coupe. The gray leather seats show very little wear and remain supportive, while the carpets, including those in the package shelf behind the seats, is in great shape. In the same way, the trunk is spotless, with all the original pads and mats in place, as well as a space-saver spare and the original jack assembly. One of Buick\'s most durable and well-developed engines, the 3.8 is torquey, efficient, and reliable, with little more than regular oil changes required for several hundred thousand miles of driving. The engine in this Reatta is untouched and unmodified, so it starts instantly, idles easily, and drives as it should, with a sporty growl from the exhaust. On the road, the brakes are firm and stop the car as they should and the 4-speed automatic transmission shifts properly. Wheels are the original alloys in virtually unmarked condition and it wears 215/65/15 General radials. A neat footnote in GM history and still a fun car to drive, this Reatta provides entry into a great club and with full service records, is still a reliable driver. Call today!
