FOR SALE: 1978 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz
This 1978 Eldorado represents the last of the truly mammoth personal luxury coupes from Cadillac. It offers room for six, a level of plushness usually reserved for pharohs, and 425 cubic inches driving the front wheels, making for a completely unique driving experience. Make no mistake, the 70s luxury cars are gaining traction in the market, simply because there\'s nothing else like them. Collector cars are about the driving experience, and there\'s just no other machine on the road that feels like a big Eldorado. This Biarritz Custom takes the Eldorado formula to its ultimate end: extra trim, special details, and every comfort and convenience option GM could conceive. This one is also remarkably well-preserved, with glittering white paint highlighting all the Biarritz\'s special features. Even the plastic fender extensions, which are always cracked, are in excellent condition on this car, suggesting excellent care for the past 35 years. The padded roof, part of the Biarritz package, remains in excellent condition, and there\'s still plenty of chrome on this Eldo, all of it glittering and well-preserved. The Biarritz also received special tufted pillow leather seats, adding living-room-levels of plushness to the interior. The white leather remains in exemplary condition, with very little wear and no damage to any of the seating surfaces, again suggesting that someone always took care of this car. Contrasting red carpets match the pinstripes outside, and the wrap-around dash offers fairly convincing wood inserts. This car is also loaded with options, including automatic climate control, twilight sentinel, auto-dimming headlamps, cruise control, and a way-cool AM/FM/8-track/CB radio-yes, a factory CB! Everything from the carpets to the headliner is nicely preserved, including the irreplaceable floor mats that were unique to these big Eldorados. There\'s real room for six, thanks to the Eldo\'s flat floors (front-wheel-drive means no driveshaft tunnel), and the nicely preserved trunk will easily swallow all the luggage you can carry. The real appeal of \'70s luxury cars are their effortless manners, and thanks to a massive 425 cubic inch V8 under the hood, this Eldorado cruises with the ease and smoothness of an electric locomotive. Showing excellent preservation and a lot of originality, the engine bay is clean with no signs of trouble, and you\'ll note that the A/C system has been converted to R134a refrigerant. The Eldorado\'s unique front-wheel-drive system places the transmission next to the engine, so the entire driveline is quite compact, and as road testers of the period discovered, it\'s surprisingly agile for such a big beast. I\'ll also wager that it\'s virtually invincible in the snow, although it\'s obvious this one has never seen anything harsher than a thunderstorm. Four-wheel discs were standard equipment, and the unique Eldorado wheels were fitted with color-matched wheel discs on Biarritz models. With the \'70s heating up, the full-sized Eldorado will be at the top of many collectors\' wish lists and you\'ll have a hard time finding one nicer than this Biarritz. Call today!
