FOR SALE: 1977 Cadillac Eldorado
The massive land yacht era was drawing to a close in the late \'70s, and this 1977 Eldorado coupe represents GM\'s flagship. With just over 10,000 original miles, it\'s also an incredible survivor that drives like a brand-new 1977 Cadillac. And believe me, if you haven\'t experienced a \'70s American luxury car, you\'re really missing out. Cadillac\'s big luxury coupe was still a flashy machine in 1977, perhaps even more than in previous years. Actually, even though it\'s nearly 18 feet long and weighs more than 5000 pounds, the proportions are quite stylish, and there\'s no denying that the long hood/short deck theme always looks good. Flashy red paint gives this Eldo a very high profile, and the totally original finish still looks great 35 years later. All the things that are issues on lesser Eldos are in excellent shape, ranging from the rubberized fender caps to the plastic insert under the license plate, none of which show any signs of cracking. All the trim is likewise factory-fresh, from the front bumper with unique vertical ends to the stainless trim along the rockers. The padded roof remains in excellent condition with no yellowing around the edges, no popped seams, and definitely no signs of rust underneath. The disco era was in full swing, but the Eldo remained a traditional luxury car, with leather and wood and despite the bright red color, the interior reflects a conservative look. Twin power buckets are beautifully preserved, and the back seat looks virtually untouched. Original floor mats, which are completely unobtainable today, protect the deep pile carpeting that give the Eldo a hushed interior at speed. All the instruments are fully functional, with a unique two-tiered dashboard that puts the warning lights up high and secondary controls to either side of the tilt steering column. And as a child of the \'70s, I was delighted to see a factory AM/FM/CB stereo, which is an unusual option that was red-hot at the time. The massive trunk holds the original spare, the factory-issued mat, and a complete jack assembly, as well as space for a weeks\' worth of luggage. The Eldo\'s engine was downsized in 1977, although any V8 displacing 425 cubic inches can hardly be called small. With second-year fuel injection, it\'s torquey and smooth, exactly the partner you\'d want in your luxury car. It starts easily and settles into an imperceptible idle, and while not exactly fast, it will happily cruise all day at triple-digit speeds, since big cars like this were built for guys in Texas who hammered across the desert. The front-wheel-drive TH425 transmission is an engineering marvel that\'s proven to be bulletproof over the years, and with four-wheel disc brakes, it actually stops competently as well. Unique color-matched wheelcovers are a 1977 hallmark, and it wears 814-188 Michelin radials that may be original to the car. The last of the massive personal luxury coupes has become a hot collectors\' item, and there can\'t be many nicer than this. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Charlotte showroom.
