FOR SALE: 1970 Chevrolet Monte Carlo
The day is not far off when first-generation Monte Carlos like this nicely preserved 1970 example will become highly-sought collector pieces. Just like first-generation Rivieras, Continental Mark IIs, and early front-wheel-drive Toronados, they were formerly affordable, but are now red-hot collectables, and the Monte Carlo certainly fits the mold. The Monte Carlo is a great example of the right car at the right time, and if you\'re looking for one of these, this is the right one for you. With just two owners from new, it\'s a neatly preserved piece of GM history, a game-changer that practically invented affordable personal luxury. It also fits neatly with the end of the muscle car era; with a very muscular stance, those dramatic fenders, and traditional long hood/short deck profile it definitely looks the part. Refinished in the original Code 58 Autumn Gold, it looks great rendered in two-stage urethane, complete with pinstripes on the dramatic squared-off fenders. The tightly-woven grille, single headlights, and tight-fitting bumpers make the \'70 Monte Carlo an icon, and its simple posterior will remain timeless. The chrome is excellent, and the black vinyl roof looks almost new with no signs of age and certainly no rust underneath. Designers worked hard to make the interior of the Monte Carlo luxurious, but kept it on a strict Chevrolet budget. The bucket seats flank a center console fitted with GM\'s famous horseshoe shifter, and every flat surface on the dash, console, and door panel has been covered in faux burled walnut, which does indeed give it an upscale feel. The steering wheel is showing its age with a few cracks, but things like the dash pad, instruments, and door panels are original pieces in remarkably good shape. Luxury goodies include cold A/C, an AM/FM/CD stereo system (admittedly aftermarket), and plush carpets that keep the interior suitably quiet. An aftermarket tach has been affixed to the console, but it\'s not out of place given the car\'s sporting intentions. The trunk is amazingly clean, and carries a full-sized spare tire and jack assembly. That long, long hood has created what is quite possibly the world\'s largest fan shroud in this small-block-equipped Monte Carlo. Still totally original and unmodified, this smooth-running powerplant is ideal for the Monte Carlo\'s personality. It\'s sporting, with a great muted V8 rumble, but luxuriously unobtrusive when you\'re just cruising. It also offers plenty of power for spinning all the power accessories, including a brand new A/C compressor converted to use R134a refrigerant. It appears to be wearing original Chevy Orange paint, although the Z/28-style valve covers and open-element air cleaner are obvious changes. It\'s linked to a TH350 3-speed automatic, and as a full-sized car, it got a 12-bolt rear for durability. This one has an awesome stance, too, a look enhanced by the factory Rally wheels wearing 225/70/15 Dunlop radials. If you\'ve been wanting one of these, make your move soon, because clean, affordable Monte Carlos will soon be the stuff of legends. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Atlanta showroom.
