One of Only 32 Units Built out of 100,185 Cougars made for the Year 1969 and Only 5 Made with this Rare Paint / Trim codes. Gorgeous Gold metallic paint with White leather interior and green tinted glass. This car was Ordered from the Home Office Reserve and Built As A Test Car for Mercury, one of two. It was Built-Released-and Sold on the same date. As you know, most test cars get destroyed after testing. This one got away. After testing it made its way to the Ford Resale lot for Employee Purchasing. The Montana vehicle still had its resale sticker on the side glass when purchased. The Marti Report and the Original Ford invoice confirms this and shows it went to the Ford Test Pilot Plant manufacturing to the garage for testing . This plain Jane XR7 had no vinyl top or markings (a sleeper) with the 428 CJ 4-speed. This is the Only Gold / White 428 CJ Cougar made (1 of 1). With the Options of 428 4-Speed with 350 posi, Ps, Pb, Rare Power Ventilation (1 of 850 made in 69 ), am/fm stereo radio, console, and disk brakes. A two year restoration to follow to Original Ford Specifications. Special thanks to Bob Perkins of Wisconsin for the information and consulting in the restoration process for this like new condition Auto. In the two year restoration, fresh with no miles since,the vehicle was completely disassembled, stripped of all paint and sand blasted, replacing of the 2 rear quarter panels and rear floors with rust free metal. Excellent unibody with clean welded seams and spot welds present. The Cougar was repainted completely apart in Original gold metallic paint with clear coat and sanded and buffed to a laser straight mirror finish ($12,000 paint job). The drive train was completely rebuilt as well as other components and painted to all factory original specifications. Being into Cougars, I have bought up NOS parts through the years for such a Cougar. We used all the Concours Parts we could find. From dealers and NPD--hoses belts clamps decals bolt kits to make as original as possible-and it Shows. All trim on the car is NOS - New - Replated to better than Original Ford. Approximately $6,500 has been spent on Nos Trim and Replating including $2,200 just to Replate of the Complet e grille and comes with Nos front and rear Bumpers. The interior of the XR7 originally only leather was used on the bottom and back of the front seats and top of the rear seats. A complete custom Original Specification Design all s leather interior seats was made in White, soft as a baby bottom. Absolutely Stunning. New interio r consists of headliner, seats, carpet, trim, lights sills chrome metal or plastic re-plated, and new refinishing steering wheel with all new wood grain inserts. Original gauges with lens polished -dash pad excellent-No cracks,and refinish of painted metal,completed the interior. The car has 97 % matching casting codes and date codes of the drive train throughout the car. Replaced windshield, tires, brakes, shocks, suspension, and aluminized dual exhaust system for the stagger shock setup. The only change to the vehicle was to replace all side glass with 1970 Cougar glass because the 1969 had a tendancy to fall out of the tracks, and added an electronic ignition for the distributor under the cap. The engine is a 428 Cobra jet with correct date casting codes block-heads-aluminum PI intake-distributor-carburetor-water pump-exhaust manifold and bell housing. A 30 over bore, a 10/10 crank, cast pistons, double molly rings, ss cylinder head valves, bearings, timing chain, seals, gaskets, etc. Trans is rebuilt, C9 code, big in and out shaft, new syncros, washers, bushings, roller pins, shaft, gasket and seal kit with a center force clutch set up. Rear end - N case, date coded with new 350 gears, new rebuilt posi unit with clutches, seals, and bearings. You cant duplicate this car for the time and money spent and what its being sold for, a very reasonable price. I have a number of cars that Im trying to get them finish and cant keep them all. To sell this car and move on to the next one. I feel this car could easily be sold for $125,000 and more at an Big Auto Auction House on a Saturday afternoon like at the Mecum or Barrett Jackson Auctions coming up.
