FOR SALE: 1966 Ford Mustang
Sometimes you just want a nice Mustang that drives well and doesn\'t give you headaches. This 1966 coupe is like that-with a sweet-running 289, a gorgeous interior, and a paint job that might help keep you out of trouble, it\'s exactly the right car for someone who likes to drive their vintage hardware. You could probably get away with calling it Wimbledon White, which is this car\'s original color, but there\'s actually a lot of pearl in the finish that definitely makes it stand out in a crowd. Whatever you want to call it, the soft color accentuates the Mustang\'s sharp creases. Look how it defines the fender line, which is also highlighted by a contrasting pinstripe. You\'ll also note that the bodywork was nicely done and the car appears to be very solid and clean inside and underneath. It\'s actually kind of nice to see a base V8 Mustang that hasn\'t been given the Shelby treatment or even GT fog lamps. A black interior with bucket seats and black crinkle vinyl provide a sporty driving environment. Door panels and carpets are quite nice, and a small diameter steering wheel replaces the original plastic piece. Air conditioning was often a dealer-installed option, but on this car it appears to be factory-installed with a correct housing just ahead of the shifter for the C4 3-speed automatic transmission. An AM/FM/cassette head unit has been installed but the metal dash has not been modified to accommodate it, and that custom center console is easily removed for shows. There are minimal signs of wear throughout the interior, and once again it\'s refreshing to see something that\'s simply the way Ford built it and not over-restored or modified. Even the trunk still carries an original mat and spare tire cover. With Fords of this vintage, there\'s really no way to say conclusively that the engine is \"numbers matching,\" but it definitely looks like factory-issue under the hood. The 289 makes great noises and its bubbly, bouncy idle unwinds into a wonderful tenor wail as speed increases, mostly thanks to a recent dual exhaust system. The big A/C compressor dominates the engine bay, but there\'s Ford Blue paint on the block and signs of careful and regular maintenance throughout. Underneath, it appears to be highly original and solid, and the 3-speed automatic transmission with 2.80 gears at the rear are ideal dance partners. Upgrades include two new mufflers, rebuilt brakes, and a brand new gas tank. For period-perfect rolling stock, look no further than the Magnum 500-style wheels wearing 195/75/14 whitewall radials. If you\'re a fan of originality and keeping them the way they were when they were new, this might be your car. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Charlotte showroom.
