FOR SALE: 1966 Ford Mustang

Yes, I know Steve McQueen\'s fastback was a \'68, but I think he would have approved of this way-cool \'66, which is clearly a tribute to the greatest fastback of them all. Hey, if Ford can do it in 2001, why can\'t an enterprising and talented hobbyist build his own version? All this one needs is a cool bachelor jazz soundtrack and it\'s ready to rock. Yeah, Highland Green looks good on just about any Mustang, but it really shines on an early fastback. This one was beautifully rendered, with crisp body lines and a bare minimum of extraneous detail. All the original Mustang design cues are there, including the C-scoop in the rear quarters and white stripes along the rockers. Finish work is good, which is just the way McQueen liked \'em, and it makes a bold statement despite its subtle look. There are no add-ons like a goofy hood scoop or rear spoiler to upset the fastback\'s ultra-sanitary look, and they even got the little stuff right, like the blacked-out and pony-free grille and the GT gas cap out back. The emblems have been shaved, but the chrome bumpers remain, along with the timeless Mustang taillights that are recognizable from a mile away. Black bucket seats have been fitted with correct reproduction seat covers, but this ultra-clean fastback still wears its original door panels. A Grant GT steering wheel is easy to grip and looks great, and you still have an unobstructed view of the original gauges set into a bright instrument panel. The bare-knuckle look of a no-console shifter is all function without worrying about style, and that Hurst cue ball is connected to five gears instead of four. And no, there is no radio which I\'m thinking might be on purpose-did you ever notice in \"Bullitt\" that the bachelor jazz stopped the minute the Charger dropped the hammer? Perhaps the high-revving engine note is all you really need. The fold-down rear seat makes the fastback eminently practical for a muscle car, and the trunk sports a correct plaid mat that might just be original. The small block under the hood is a 351, and it makes this lightweight fastback truly formidable on the street. It\'s a neat fit, and with the vivid Ford Blue paint, it looks like it could have been born there. Finned valve covers add a racy look, especially color-matched to the block, and the contrasting red plug wires dress it up in a big way. An Edelbrock intake and carburetor give it the lungs to run at high RPM, while long-tube headers and Flowmasters give it a brilliant soundtrack. The floors are solid, the suspension is basically stock, and thanks to a set of 3.73 gears out back, acceleration is impressive yet the overdrive makes it pleasant on the highway. And while they\'re not vintage Torque Thrusts, the chrome Foose wheels look slick and wear 225/45/17 front and 245/40/17 rear performance radials. An honorable tribute to a great high-performance Mustang that\'s truly great in its own right. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Charlotte showroom.
