FOR SALE: 1966 Ford Mustang
It\'s easy to forget that not all the Mustangs were fire-breathing track machines tuned by Carroll Shelby himself. In fact, of the millions they built, a vast majority were simply pleasant cars that looked great and were a joy to drive. After all, it\'s probably why they sold so many. So take a good, long look at this beautiful coupe, which wears a high-quality restoration that invites you to experience what the Mustang was about for most of its owners. Crisp lines, great detailing, and a beautiful soft gloss make this one look authentic, and you can easily imagine one of these parked near the beach in California or sitting outside an office building in the mid-60s. Arcadian Blue is a great choice, too, highlighting the Mustang\'s dramatic long hood/short deck design and the dramatic side cove that carves through its flanks. Workmanship is excellent, and you\'ll probably find that nothing was overlooked when this one was being finished: the sheetmetal is rust free, the prep got it laser-straight, and the paint is even and glossy. All the trim was restored, too, including bright chrome bumpers, correct badges and emblems, and even the trim spears fitted to the quarter panels just behind the doors. That factory-correct Arcadian Blue paint job is perfectly complemented by the two-tone blue bucket seat interior, which was standard but interestingly, not the only choice (you actually COULD get a bench in a Mustang). Fresh seat covers with dark blue inserts give it a suitably sporty look, and the center console with its wood appliques is attractive as well as practical. Fresh door panels and new carpets give it a showroom-fresh feel inside, although the gauges appear to be original and still in good condition. An AM/FM/MP3 stereo head unit is the only major modification, but one you\'ll appreciate, and that leather wrapper on the wheel is the owner\'s personal preference, not designed to hide a damaged wheel. In the trunk, there\'s a full-sized spare, as well as a fresh plaid mat and matching tire cover. Ford\'s 289 was an extremely versatile engine, and in this coupe, it plays the strong, silent type. With abundant torque, a muted V8 exhaust note, and rock-solid reliability, it was the perfect choice for a coupe like this. Fully rebuilt and beautifully finished in a Ford Blue paint job that\'s nicer than most daily drivers, it even includes the ultra-rare California emissions system, which is fully intact and functional (this is a California car, after all). It\'s backed by a C4 3-speed automatic spinning a set of 2.80 gears out back, so it\'s a superbly relaxed highway cruiser that actually pulls down pretty good gas mileage to boot. It\'s super-solid underneath, and rides on stock steel wheels with correct Mustang wheelcovers and 185/75/14 whitewall radials. So if your dreams call for an early Mustang, but your budget forces you to skip the Shelbys, do what millions of other Mustang owners did: take home a stylish V8 coupe instead. Call today!
