FOR SALE: 1966 Chevrolet Corvette
Mid-year Corvettes are perhaps the ultimate prize for fans of the plastic fantastic. Wonderful cars like this numbers-matching 1966 coupe make for great hobby cars due to their excellent road manners and wide array of options, not to mention their awesome good looks. Finished in Goodwood Green, this 1966 Corvette cuts an elegant swath through the rows of red and silver mid-year Corvettes at any show. It has enjoyed a very high-quality restoration in the not-too-distant past, and despite its value as a numbers-matching piece loaded with options, it has been built to drive and enjoy. Nevertheless, the workmanship is excellent, and there are almost no signs that the car has been used much since being completed. There are no stress cracks in the usual locations, the paint has a velvety feel and a brilliant shine, and everything fits together vastly better than the guys in St. Louis could manage given the time constraints of an assembly line. Details like the peaked line that surrounds the entire car remain sharp, proof that there were pros on the job, and all the chrome has been restored to the same very high standards. The interior is matching code 430 dark green and it has the most inviting lived-in look, more akin to a fine European sports car than America\'s favorite piece of muscle. The care that the car has obviously received suggests that it has always been cherished, but that previous owners have been smart enough to realize that a healthy Corvette is one that sees regular exercise. Thanks to a 4-speed manual, the driving experience is a delight, with the original instruments sweeping to life when you turn the key. A/C has been added to this car, making it a pleasure to drive under any conditions, and with the dark paint and interior, it really should have been standard equipment in 1966. Other options include power windows, a telescopic wheel, 4-way emergency flashers, trip odometer, and a relatively unusual AM/FM radio with power antenna. And yes, it\'s every bit as nice as it looks. The engine is the original, numbers-matching 327/300, which was the standard powerplant in the 1966 Corvette. However, it\'s hard to say that any car with 300 horsepower is \"standard\" in any way. It was nicely restored, with correct finishes and materials throughout, although a few invisible upgrades make it a real pleasure out on the road. An Edelbrock carburetor has been fitted under the original air cleaner along with an MSD ignition system cleverly tucked inside the original chrome shielding. And since this is a Corvette, the recent power brake upgrade and a few extra pieces of brightwork, including the alternator and A/C compressor, certainly don\'t hurt. Underneath, the chassis is solid and nicely finished, although it\'s no longer detailed for show. A correct dual exhaust system gives it just the right V8 bark, and it wears correct knock-off hubcaps and cool 205/75/15 gold-line radials. If you\'ve been looking for a mid-year with the perfect combination of looks and road-readiness, you\'ve found it. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Charlotte showroom.
