FOR SALE: 1947 Chrysler Windsor
There isn\'t much we can say about this spectacular 1947 Chrysler Windsor convertible that you can\'t glean from the photos. It\'s the culmination of a 10-year build of an unusual car, and if you\'re a fan of \"dare to be different,\" this is a spectacular example, and comes complete with vintage Hemi power. This rod was done right! The Windsor built on the long hood/short deck look that established the \'30s, but when it\'s been smoothed, decked, nosed, and frenched like this, the results are simply amazing. The original sheetmetal is there, but it has been subtly and expertly modified to look ultra-smooth, and all the extraneous trim has been deleted. The show-quality paint is Spies-Hecker, and the finish is as deep and impenetrable as a black hole, applied over bodywork that\'s so straight, NASA came by to use it to calibrate some of their instruments. Details like the PT Cruiser taillights have been so neatly integrated that they look like they were born on this car, and the billet grille gives it a smooth, sleek look. The bumpers were pulled in tight to the body and Mazda Miata door handles are a neat detail. Red leather buckets have been fitted inside the spacious Windsor coupe body, but there\'s not a trace of the original design anywhere. The custom front buckets are power actuated, and a matching rear seat offers a center armrest. The original dash has been heavily modified, with the instrument panel moved to the center and filled with modern VDO gauges. A custom center console houses controls for the AM/FM/CD/DVD system with navigation, as well as Vintage Air A/C system and power windows. The workmanship is professional-grade, and borders on artwork with lovely door panels and neatly fitted carpets. Overhead there\'s a power-actuated canvas convertible top that seals up well and looks remarkably good on the smooth ragtop bodywork. The key to a truly great rod is always the powerplant, and this one delivers in a big way. Keeping this Chrysler all Mopar was important, but not just any engine would do-that\'s a 354 cubic inch Hemi from a 1955 DeSoto. Better still, it\'s topped with a modern fuel injection system that makes it run like a modern car, with instant starting and a smooth idle, as well as impressive manners on the highway. It\'s linked to a 4L60 4-speed automatic transmission and a Ford 9-inch with 3.50 gears on a limited slip, so cruising is effortless at any speed. You can see how beautifully detailed the engine bay is, with a ton of polished aluminum, but the chassis is a work of art, with custom A-arms, an Air Ride suspension, and Baer 4-wheel disc brakes. Custom Billet Specialties 20-inch wheels wear low-profile rubber, 245/35/20s up front and 275/35/20s in back. There\'s way more in this car than we can cover here, but suffice to say that this is one of the most impressive rods we\'ve ever seen anywhere. Call us today for all the details!
